Laser Therapy

Lasers, developed in 1960, have many useful applications in veterinary medicine and surgery.  West Jefferson Animal Hospital has recently acquired a therapeutic laser to improve and enhance treatment of our patients.

What is Pet Laser Therapy?

Therapeutic lasers provide improved wound healing and decreased inflammation and pain by photobiomodulation(isn’t that a fun word) which means that low level laser light stimulates cellular function.  The doctors use the laser to provide improved tissue healing when they prescribe therapy after most surgical and dental procedures.

What Conditions can Pet Laser Therapy Help?

Dogs and cats with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, sprains or strains, ear infection, or lick granulomas, can have improved quality of life and healing/return to function when laser therapy is prescribed by a doctor.  Especially important in our geriatric or compromised patients is the fact that laser therapy is safe and not invasive.

Many patients have already benefited from the new therapeutic laser.  We’ve especially seen promising results in using laser therapy as a pet arthritis treatment. Some or our arthritis patients have improved mobility and quality of life with laser therapy.  Please let us know if you would like to discuss how your four-legged family member could benefit from this state-of-art treatment.
